Abstract
ANSD (Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder) –also known as auditory desynchrony or Auditory Neuropathy– is a disorder characterized by peripheral hearing loss with preserved integrity of the outer hair cells. This auditory disorder affects the ability of the individual to quickly process shifting acoustic signals known as temporal auditory processing. Children with ANSD should be carefully monitored. In addition, the use of questionnaires for parents and caregivers proves useful for the decision-making.
This paper shows the auditory approach of two pediatric case studies presenting hearing impairment and characteristics consistent with ANSD; the patients have been given hearing aids and provided with timely audiologic habilitation/rehabilitation.
